North Bristol ARC have progressed their plans for a Special Event Station commemorating Flight 777 with the final piece of the puzzle, a special special event callsign. As the title of this post says they will be operating GB80AGBB between 30 May 2023 and 3 June 2023 inclusive.

David G7BYN and Matt G7FBD recently visited South Bristol Amateur Radio Club to describe the proposed Special Event Station and it’s background and to also enlist some local help, as the logistics of operating a Special Event Station over 5 days, particularly during the working week, cannot be underestimated. I am pleased to say that a number of SBARC members who were present at the NBARC visit pledged their support and volunteered to help with the station, however the more the merrier.

So, if you can get to the event, even for a couple of hours, your presence and assistance would be hugely appreciated by all involved. For security and safety reasons, the station is going to have to be fully dismantled and re-erected each day and this is much easier and much faster with plenty of warm bodies on site. Even if you haven’t formally volunteered, you are welcome to turn up during the event and lend a hand: setting up, operating, logging, talking to the public, dismantling etc.

More details are available at the newly created GB80AGBB QRZ page, but if you want more specifics about the event please do not hesitate to contact either NBARC through their website or SBARC by EMail.
