Kate M6ODE On Air

Club Members Rally Round to get new Foundation Licensee on air

South Bristol Amateur Radio Club members rallied around to help newly qualified Kate M6ODE have a collinear antenna installed at her home last Monday afternoon.

Paul 2E0GHT, Ben 2E0RCG and Wayne M6IOK gathered the kit together and Wayne, our new aerial rigger, installed his first chimney lashing kit with ease.

The dual band 2m and 70cm collinear was attached to a 2.5 metre pole which was fixed to the chimney bracket without a hitch.

Tests post installation showed an acceptably low SWR, allowing the station to be put on air straight away. An initial contact with Tony 2E0JWF at his own QTH and an exchange of signal reports proved the station to be working well.

Kate, who has mobility impairments that make getting onto the roof an impossibility, was very pleased with the installation and is now able to reach Bristol and the surrounding area with ease.

The Officers and Committee of the South Bristol Amateur Radio Club support and commend the actions of these members as being entirely in the spirit of Amateur Radio and a practical demonstration of the Clubs ethos.
