During July and August 2025 the South Bristol Amateur Radio Club ran another on-line Foundation Training Course.

The courses are offered free and use the Open Source JITSI Meet video conference platform to create a virtual classroom. This format allows potential students from any part of the UK and even the world, although we have yet to have any overseas students, to join the course.

We suffered some attrition in student numbers during the course but concluded the course around the end of August. Following a bit of time for revision and preparation the students who completed the course have been arranging and sitting their remote invigilated exams via the RSGB.

The first student to report a result was successful with 24 marks out of a possible 26. Martin now has the callsign M7IZP, that’s Mike Seven India Zulu Papa or “dah-dah  dah-dah-di-di-dit  di-dit  dah-dah-di-dit  di-dah-dah-dit“.

If you should come across Martin on the air please welcome him to the hobby.

Martin has indicated a desire to quickly move onto an Intermediate Course, so we will be updating our course notes and presentations and will shortly be advertising an Intermediate Course also using the virtual classroom format.
