The International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) Region 1 is holding a strategic workshop to examine the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats to the hobby. Each of the national societies in the region has been asked to describe the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that apply to amateur radio in their country. the RSGB would like to hear from members and non-members as the context of the survey is amateur radio as a whole in the UK.

On 19 April Matt G4RKY posted on the Frys Hill Repeater Group Facebook page that the 70cms Repeaters GB3FI and GB3ZB are linked together. Also the 6m Repeaters GB3FH and GB3ZY are also linked together.

The AGM livestream was recorded. The total package lasts nearly 3.5 hours but the AGM business was followed by a montage of Radio Amateurs Getting on the Air to Care in 2020, a Q&A session where members pre-submitted questions were answered by board members, a video demonstrating the challenges of 2020 and the responses and a live presentation by RSGB EMC Chair John Rogers M0JAV on the new EMF limitations which is very worthy of you your attention.

The licence change requiring all licensees (amateur and commercial) to demonstrate compliance with the ICNIRP will be implemented by 18 May 2021. Compliance is not required until November 2021 for frequencies above 10MHz or May 2022 for frequencies below 10MHz. This short (15 minute) video shows how to employ the RSGB/Ofcom calculator spreadsheet which is still undergoing development.

The RSGB 2021 AGM was held virtually, here is a summary of key items

On 21 April 2001, ESA astronaut Umberto Guidoni first set foot, or hand, on the International Space Station, making him the first European to visit and work the orbiting outpost. Since then, the Space Station has grown immensely, as have the number of Europeans to have worked in it, together with the science experiments performed in orbit.

The Friendship on the Air Award is designed to celebrate the friendship of amateur radio over the airwaves. The main purpose is to contact other people in a friendly and non-competitive way, connecting with them rather than simply making a quick QSO and moving on.

Carine Dubois F5ISY developed this YL contest but never got to see it to the end. So it is in this respect that a group of YL’s have vowed to continue to make this happen, twice a year, in her memory.
